Use this interactive demo to learn how to grant a permission set to a Salesforce user.

Quick summary

This demo walks you through how to assign a permission set to a user in Salesforce using Advanced Setup. Permission sets let admins extend user access without changing their profile, making it easy to manage feature-level user permissions at scale.

Steps

  1. Click the gear icon at the top-right of your Salesforce dashboard.
  2. Select Open Advanced Setup from the dropdown menu.
  3. In the Quick Find search box, type and select Permission Sets.
  4. Scroll down and select Manage Subscriptions in Your Account: Salesforce User.
  5. Click Manage Assignments to open the assignments panel.
  6. Select Add Assignment in the top-right corner of the Current Assignments section.
  7. Choose a user from the list, then click Next.
  8. Click Assign to confirm and complete the permission set assignment.
  9. The permission set has been successfully assigned to the user in Salesforce.

📌 Why this matters

Assigning permission sets in Salesforce is essential for Salesforce admins who need to grant users access to specific features without altering their core profile. Permission sets provide a flexible, scalable way to manage user permissions across your org, reducing security risk while enabling role-appropriate access. This demo matters because misconfigured user access is one of the most common sources of Salesforce support issues, and knowing the exact steps saves time and prevents costly errors. Whether you are onboarding new users or adjusting access for existing ones, mastering permission set assignment is a foundational Salesforce admin skill.
