Use this interactive demo to learn how to build a visual progress bar inside your Notion database.

Quick summary

A Notion progress bar is created by adding a Formula property to a database and using Notion AI to generate the formula automatically. This lets you track progress visually inside any Notion database without writing complex formulas by hand.

Steps

  1. On the database table, click Add property at the right side of your existing columns.
  2. Select Formula from the property type dropdown menu.
  3. Click the first row under the new formula property.
  4. In the formula editor, type what kind of progress bar formula you want Notion AI to create.
  5. Click Send to AI to generate the formula.
  6. Review the formula, then apply it to your database.
  7. Your progress bar formula is now added to your Notion database and ready to track progress visually.

📌 Why this matters

A visual progress bar in Notion transforms plain database rows into actionable task trackers, giving teams an at-a-glance view of how far along any project or goal is. By leveraging the built-in Formula property combined with Notion AI, users can generate accurate progress bar formulas in seconds without needing advanced formula knowledge. This feature is especially valuable for project managers, content teams, and productivity enthusiasts who rely on Notion databases to manage workloads. Automating progress visualization directly inside Notion eliminates the need for external tracking tools and keeps all status data in one connected workspace.
