Use this interactive demo to learn how to create a pie chart from your Notion database.

Quick summary

You can add a pie chart in Notion by creating a new Chart view on any database and configuring the donut-style chart with your chosen data properties. This step-by-step walkthrough shows exactly how to set up the Category and Amount fields to visualize your data instantly.

Steps

  1. Open your Notion database and confirm it contains data columns such as Category and Amount.
  2. Beside the current Table view, click the + icon to add a new view.
  3. Select Chart from the available view options.
  4. Open View settings and click Chart to access chart configuration.
  5. Select the donut-style chart option from the chart type picker.
  6. Under What to show, select the number property you want to chart, such as Amount.
  7. Under Slice by, select the property to group by, such as Category.
  8. Notion will automatically generate a donut-style pie chart based on your database data.

📌 Why this matters

Notion's built-in Chart view lets teams transform raw database data into visual pie charts without any third-party tools or integrations. Being able to visualize category breakdowns and numeric totals directly inside Notion streamlines reporting and decision-making for project managers, finance teams, and operations leads. This feature eliminates the need to export data to separate analytics platforms, keeping all insights centralized in your Notion workspace. For teams already using Notion as their single source of truth, adding pie charts makes data storytelling faster and more accessible.
